Member Posts: 5 | I'm brand new to this program. I've got it installed on my iPaq h2215, but whenever I go to load the program, I get the message "MorphGear: Access Violation". It pops up the very first thing. Anybody know what the deal is? Help would be good! Thanks!

Make sure you're installing the PPC2003 version. Also make sure you've got about 8MB or more of available program memory.

Member Posts: 5 | Still the same thing. I even downloaded a fresh copy. Yesterday I even tried using just the PPC version. Right now I've got my newly reinstalled PPC2003 version on with 16.75MB free program memory. Same error on startup. Nobody else seems to be having this problem with their iPaq 2215...what else can it be?

Expert Posts: 1638 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Do you have any other apps running? WisBar, etc.? Try closing to see if that helps. Did you get any error messages on install? Does that message come up immediately after launching the program?

Member Posts: 5 | I'm running the trial version of Spb Pocket Plus 2, but I've even tried uninstalling that. No, there were no errors when installing MorphGear. And yes, the error pops up immediately after launching MorphGear.

Expert Posts: 1638 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Check your device Owner Name to make sure you have something populated there. I might still have an issue where a blank one causes "undefined" behavior (seems to vary). If that doesn't work, then try this. Move all DLL files from the \Program Files\Games\MorphGear\Emu folder from your PPC to your desktop. You have to do this from your desktop as PPC explorer won't normally show DLL files. Next, launch MorphGear and see if you have the same problem. What that does is remove all MorphGear modules. If MorphGear loads without the access violation, exit MorphGear and move one DLL file back in at a time until you isolate the one causing the problem, then report back.

Member Posts: 5 | I tried pulling all of the DLLs out of the EMU directory, but I got the exact same thing. I hadn't even moved any of them back yet. (I tried pulling all of the DLLs out of the MorphGear directory too, but the only one it would even load without was gsgetfile.dll, and I STILL got the same error!)

Expert Posts: 1638 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Is MorphGear installed to the device memory or to a storage card? If the latter, try putting it in main memory. The 2215 is my test device, so if MorphGear works on anything, it would be that. About the only other (unappealing) thing I can suggest is to do a hardware reset on your 2215 and then install MorphGear before any other apps.

Member Posts: 5 | Well, I ended up having to do a hard reset. But hey, it worked! Now I don't have any sound though...or any other programs. But thanks. What do I do about the sound?

Expert Posts: 1638 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sound is off by default, just turn it on in Global Settings and in the module you're playing. You also need to enable "Emulate" for sound in Genesis & SNES.

New user Posts: 3 | hey i am having the same problem. I used to run morphgear on my Dell Axim X5 Advanced. Then it was stolen, so i replaed it with an Axim X30. When i load morphgear the access violation message comes up. I tried doing the hard reset, which btw is a pain in the butt. It works! for a while, then stops working again. So i decided to check out the dll thing in the emu folder,(using my desktop) however i have no dll's in there. This is really frustrating, i would appreciate any help that you could offer Edited by Humvee9 2004-08-19 4:58 PM

Elite Veteran Posts: 766 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Dell Axim X50v (740 mhz) | Eielson AFB, Alaska | Sometimes this message also comes up if the game is not supported... or maybe you should free up more space, like the admin. said Storage- 20.20 megs. Memory-31.10 megs. I mostly install all my stuff on CF & SD cards and my built-in. Doing this may free up more memory to make games run. If not...I guess a new version of Morphgear may fix it. Perfection takes time...

Scroll down and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types". Then go to the folder on your PPC and follow the procedure above. Windows seems to install with the exact opposite settings of anything useful. It could be that some other installed app is causing a problem for MG. What else is on your PDA? Make sure you're not overclocking, in some cases that has a tendency to cause access violations.

New user Posts: 1 | K, I had the same problem, and tried everything suggested here. And I still had the problem return sporatically, so I did a little research and found out what the problem was. (Running Axim X30 624 WiFi - WM2003 A02) I ended up doing hard resets and re-installing only MorphGear 2.5.5.X and then allowed the problem to return. The Access Violation that it is referring to is it can't access the windows\gx.dll file. The Hard reset restores this file (A02) but sporatically when you perform a Soft Reset, it locks up the gx.dll. So what worked a couple times for me, is to do a soft reset, and immediately run Morphgear. If it doesn't run, I do another Soft Reset, and within two or three. Some third party software packages actually modify the gx.dll. I had to copy the original gx.dll to my hard drive, and replacing with the original also helps with the access violation. Wishlist: In 2.5.5.7 It would be nice if MorphGear could detect if Gx.dll was read only, or corrupt, and make the necessary changes. AI. Hire me

Expert Posts: 1638 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ah, that is a very good observation. Getting MorphGear to correct it automagically would be a little tricky though. This is definitely a good candidate for the growing FAQ.

Member Posts: 11 | I am using a ipaq 1710 and I get that access violation after the intro part of mario rpg (and metro, but that i only see the Nitendo sign). I have tried hardware resetting and removing dlls, but the problem still persists. I have also tried copying the gx.dll but windows says it can't be converted. I would really appreciate some help. THanks
